Review: Darling Venom by Parker S. Huntington

Title: Darling Venom
Author: Parker S. Huntington
Publication date: December 11, 2021
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: My first love ended in tragedy.
My second began with his brother.

From Wall Street Journal bestseller Parker S. Huntington comes a broken love story laced with angst and forbidden romance.

I wasn’t supposed to be on that roof on Valentine’s Day.

Neither was Kellan Marchetti, the school’s designated freak.

We met on the verge of ending our lives.

Somehow, the tattered strings of our tragedies tangled and tightened into an unlikely bond.

We decided not to take the plunge and agreed to check on each other every Valentine’s Day until school ended.

Same time.

One roof.

Two restless souls.

We kept our promise for three years.

On the fourth, Kellan made a decision, and I was left to deal with the consequences.

Just when I thought our story ended, another one began.

They say all love stories look the same and taste different.

Mine was venomous, disgraceful, and written in scarlet scars.

My name is Charlotte Richards, but you can call me Venom.

Review: This book shattered and rebuilt me so many times it's not even funny. I struggled a bit at th3 beginning and it's probably because it reminds me of myself in high-school. But once i got past that the book absolutely consumed me. Added perk is the GIFS added to the book.

Review: Take Two by Ava Colt

Title: Take Two
Author: Ava Colt
Publication date: October 8. 2024
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: One night, two best friends and the threesome she’s been craving.

Introverted Anne can’t make the first move. Theo is too intimidating with his blond hair and his bespoke leather shoes, and Nathaniel is too broad with his messy man bun and his frayed T-shirts. What happens when they can no longer deny the sexual tension?

*** If you like erotic MFM romance with new adult characters, you’ll love this story. It contains multiple erotic scenes for lovers of explicit sex with a touch of romance and humor. ***

If you're looking for a full-length plot, this is not the book for you. This is a hot, steamy New Adult standalone MFM story with an HEA. No TWs apply to the spicy scenes.

Review: This is one spicy quick story. I will be checking out Ava Colts books in the future! Thank you netgalley for the opportunity to review this!

Review: The Stillwater Girls by Minka Kent

Title: The Stillwater Girls
Author: Minka Kent
Publication date: April 9, 2019
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: Two sisters raised in fear are about to find out why in a chilling novel of psychological suspense from the author of The Thinnest Air.

Ignorant of civilization and cautioned against its evils, nineteen-year-old Wren and her two sisters, Sage and Evie, were raised in off-the-grid isolation in a primitive cabin in upstate New York. When the youngest grows gravely ill, their mother leaves with the child to get help from a nearby town. And they never return.

As months pass, hope vanishes. Supplies are low. Livestock are dying. A brutal winter is bearing down. Then comes the stranger. He claims to be looking for the girls’ mother, and he’s not leaving without them.

To escape, Wren and her sister must break the rule they’ve grown up with: never go beyond the forest.

Past the thicket of dread, they come upon a house on the other side of the pines. This is where Wren and Sage must confront something more chilling than the unknowable. They’ll discover what’s been hidden from them, what they’re running from, and the secrets that have left them in the dark their entire lives.

Review: This is not my normal genre. But it was a good read. Little confused on how this is listed as a thriller but past that good read all around.

Review: This is Crazy by Natasha Madison

Title: This is Crazy
Author: Natasha Madison
Publication date: June 2, 2019
Series: This is
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: Zara Stone

All my life, I've said I will never date a hockey player. I know better because I've seen and lived it all. My father is a hockey god, my brother is the captain of the most successful NHL team in the world, and my brother-in-law also plays in the league. Their lives are complicated, so I went in the opposite direction.
I fell in love with a scholar. But instead of proposing marriage, he broke up with me.
Three months later, I saw his engagement picture on Instagram. I couldn't let him get away with that. No, it didn't matter what, I was going to make that man see that I didn't need him.

Evan Richards
I was in the running to pass my point record from last year, ready to claim the number one spot in the league. On top of my game, I was riding my career high wave.
Then, Hockey's Princess, Zara Stone tweeted me. She wanted me to crash her ex's wedding.
The worst that could happen? A PR nightmare. The best? A fun night with a beautiful woman.
It started out as a game—something I'm good at. Her crazy idea twisted into something I wasn't looking for, something neither of us wanted.

When push comes to shove, one thing runs through my mind:
This is Crazy. Also, this is crazy right.

Review: I have read some really good books so far this year but this one hits really high on my list! The second i started it i couldn't put it down! There were some characters i would have loved to have read the book for and honestly I will probably read everything else she's ever written as soon as i can! Looking back on this book and after a little more research. I recommend starting with the series Something So Right.

Review: Variation by Rebecca Yarros

Title: Variation
Author: Rebecca Yarros
Publication date: November 19, 2024
Series: N/A
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: Elite ballerina Allie Rousseau is no stranger to pressure. With her mother’s eyes always watching, perfection was expected, no matter the cost. But when an injury jeopardizes all she’s sacrificed for, Allie returns to her summer home to heal and recover. But the memories she’s tried to forget rush in and threaten to take her under.

As a Coast Guard rescue swimmer, Hudson Ellis knows that hesitation can mean the difference between life and death. He’s always prided himself on being in the right place at the right time, especially when it came to Allie Rousseau…until the night he left for basic. After the biggest regret of his life, the secrets he keeps mean he can never be with the one woman he wants more than his next breath.

When Hudson’s niece shows up on Allie’s doorstep, desperate to find her birth mother, Allie finds herself in an unimaginable position. Allie and Hudson’s past and present might be endlessly complicated. The thread that tied them to each other all those years ago may have unraveled, but the truth could pull them back together, or drive them apart forever.

Review: First and foremost I would just like to say do not read this while hormonal unless you are down to cry. Because it will make you. I went into this read hesitant and I came out with (so far) a top 5 read of 2025! This was everything I needed in love, character growth and I learned a few new things along the way. While I don't normally read contemporary this one will definitely encourage me to read it a bit more frequently in the future!

Review: Devil of Dublin by BB Easton

Title: Devil of Dublin
Author: BB Easton
Publication date: September 22, 2022
Series: Devil of Dublin
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: I can’t remember anymore if my grandfather’s eyes were blue or green, but I’ll never forget the way they wrinkled at the corners when he laughed at one of his own jokes. Or the way they sparkled with mischief when he told me tales about the magical creatures that dwelled in the forest behind his humble Irish sheep farm—shy fairies who liked to eat tea biscuits, cruel witches who liked to eat children, a moody lake spirit with a taste for expensive gifts.

As a child, I believed every fantastical word. But when he warned me about the mute boy who also lurked in those woods, the one the priest had declared to be the spawn of Satan himself, I refused to listen. Kellen wasn’t evil. He was kind, and beautiful, and special, and hurting. He was my friend. And with every summer I spent stolen away with him in those enchanted woods, he grew to become so much more.

But when I return to Glenshire as an adult, grieving and engaged to someone else, all those legends quickly morph into nightmares.

My grandfather had been right about everything, especially the boy.

If only I had listened.

Review: I enjoyed the story. I liked all the background and build up. But Darby is a bit delusional. I get it as a kid to live in a fantasy world but as an adult or even a teen, I'm not sure. And how was there not someone better for her to live with then a parent who lost custody. Good book but won't be in my top 5.

Review: Interception by Fiona Davenport

Title: Interception
Author: Fiona Davenport
Publication Date: June 27, 2022
Series: The New York Nighthawks
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: Nixon Scott’s dream of playing professional football had finally come true. His focus needed to be on making the most of his rookie season. But then he met Ember Walsh.

All it took was one look for Nixon to know Ember was meant to be his, but the timing was all wrong. She was also off-limits.

Falling for his sister’s best friend wasn’t the right move. But when she was set up with one of his teammates, Nixon had no choice but to intercept Ember and lay claim to his woman.

Review: I was hoping they were going to be the next couple and they were!! Not my favorite couple but hard to top Prentice and Nomi! I can't wait to read the next book!

Review: Better Than Friends by Jill Shalvis

Title: Better Than Friends
Author: Jill Shalvis
Publication date: January 21, 2025
Series: Sunrise Cove
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: Old flames reignite in Sunrise Cove in this charming enemies-to-lovers, second-chance, small-town, forced-proximity love story about family, friendships, and true love from New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis.

When Olive Porter’s off-the-grid parents go missing, she reluctantly seeks out Noah Turner, her ex and the only person she both trusts implicitly and not at all.

As a special investigative agent for the National Park Service, Noah’s used to living under intense pressure. Or he was until he got injured on the job. Now unhappily recuperating at home while being smothered by his loving but nosy family, he’d love nothing more than a good distraction.

So when Olive shows up looking like a million bucks, he has to do a gut and heart check. Because nope, no matter what, he can’t fall for her again, the woman who once blew up his entire life and never looked back. How ironic then that his own personal hell (Olive) is also his ticket out of town. The question is, will the risk be worth the reward?

Review: This was such a sweet read. I absolutely would have devoured this in one day if it hadn't been for my horrible cold. I can't wait to start the series from the beginning. I absolutely adore Joe and katie, Joey makes me crack up. Gram is the apple of my eye and Noah's and Olive are everything.

With the dome covering the College, preventing any side from interfering, Frankie has to deal with the five supernatural hunks – when each one of them is determined to take her for himself.

And for his party, of course. The four Houses and Heaven all want a piece of her and the boys have made deals whose details she doesn't know.

Truths are coming to light about the boys' motivations in befriending her, and though her heart is broken, Frankie must accept that they never really cared for her and move on.

As much as one can move on in a College-turned-prison.

With five gorgeous and unavailable roommates.

While still trying to figure out who her dad is and why she is on the Most Wanted list.

Could it be that small incident of bringing someone back from the dead? Surely it isn't that important?

As if dealing death with her scream wasn't enough, dealing life seems to be the final straw for everyone in power.

As the boys' betrayal feels like the last straw for her heart.

When things get tough, that's when you discover your allies, or so they say. Will the boys come through in the end and will it be enough to save her?

Review: Unlawful Temptations by Alexandria Lee

Title: Unlawful Temptations
Author: Alexandria Lee
Publication date: July 12, 2023
Series: Star-Crossed
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: Breaking the rules is never without consequence.

And that's what Dominic Reed was to me. A devastating consequence.

It seemed harmless when we met. He needed a nanny, and I needed a job. Badly. I was the only thing keeping food on the table and lights on in our not-so-happily-ever-after home.

I thought working for Dominic Reed would be easy.

I thought very wrong.

It was the exact opposite of easy. In fact, it was impossible when he was my boss and I was his employee, and fate decided it didn't care about professionalism or boundaries. It didn't care that I was ten years younger. It didn't care that I'd built the entire foundation of my adult life on the fact that love was poison and men were the devil.

And it certainly didn't care about the wedding band around Dominic's finger either.

No matter how off limits he was to me or how wild and rebellious I was to him, our chemistry was heroin, and it demanded our submission despite how hard we scrambled to stop it.

And I needed to stop it, because it wasn't just my heart in jeopardy if I fell in love with Dominic Reed.

Apparently, it was my life.

Review: I had a friend tell me this was a must read. While this book is probably not going to be part of my top 5 for 2025. It was really well written and extremely hard to put down. But my one downfall for it was cheating. It's the one thing I really don't like to read about. It was my own mistake I try to always go into books fully blind. I can't quiet decide where this falls in the romance section. So if you are looking for a book that will suck you in an refuse to let go, Look no further.

Review: Seducing the Innocent by Shayla Black

Title: Seducing the Innocent
Author: Shayla Black
Publication date: January 23, 2017
Series: Forbidden Confessions
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: Just how far will she go to keep her secret crush?
I’m Kayla.
I’m twenty-one.
And I’m all alone in the world—except for my late brother’s best friend.
But Oliver intends to move back to London.
I’m in love with him. I have to persuade him not to leave…somehow.
If I confess I’m a virgin and show him how far I’ll go to keep him, will he stay?
Maybe, but I also never suspected he’s keeping a shocking secret of his own…

Review: I really like this series. This series is so nice. It's always quick, hot and interconnected without making you feel like you have to read it in order. Which is honestly a really nice change.

Review: Sacked by Fiona Davis

Title: Sacked
Author: Fiona Davenport
Publication Date: May 30, 2022
Series: The New York Nighthawks
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: Prentice Wright was one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He was known for making all the right moves on the field. It was how he led the New York Nighthawks to victory so often.

Falling for his teammate’s sister wasn’t a smart play. Especially when Naomi Scott was more than a decade younger than him.

But Prentice was also known for being relentless in the pursuit of his goals…and he’d never wanted anything more than to make Naomi his.

Review: I love Fiona Davenport's writing. I love the insta-love. The MMC's need to immediately impregnant the FMC. Their ability to make everyone know they love their person. Their work always hits all of my favorite tropes. Sometimes I wish the books were a little longer. But that in no way reflects my love of all of their written work.

Review: Sinners Retreat by Lauren Biel

Title: Sinners Retreat
Author: Lauren Biel
Publication Date: September 17, 2024
Series: The Slaycation
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: A dark, twisted romcom with murder, mayhem, and chemistry that could kill

Ezra
I didn’t come to the Sinners Retreat looking for love or anything remotely close to it, but then I met Kindra.

The connection? Instant. Electric. The kind of chemistry that shakes your foundation and makes you question everything you thought you knew.

And I know danger—I’ve built my life around it. But this? This feels like something darker. Uncontrollable. The closer I get to her, the harder it is to keep my past buried. Do I tell her the truth? That the man she’s hunting . . . is me?

I’m not walking away. Not when every glance pulls me deeper into this twisted mess of attraction and danger. I’m playing with fire, and I’m not sure we’ll both make it out.

Kindra
I came to this retreat for one thing—revenge. My brother’s killer is out there, and I won’t leave until I’ve dealt with him.

But then Ezra walks into my life, with his damn glasses, that stupid smile, and the kind of charm that makes me forget why I’m even here.

From the moment we meet, there’s this pull. I can’t focus on my plan when he’s around, messing me up with every look and word, making me want things I shouldn’t. And that’s the problem, isn’t it? Ezra’s too good to be true. Because the closer we get, the more I realize he’s hiding something big. Something that might destroy me.

Or will it destroy him?

Sinners Retreat is a dark romantic comedy with explosive chemistry, razor-sharp humor, and a love story that’s anything but safe. Packed with serial killers, forced proximity, and banter that cuts as deep as the secrets, it’s a dangerously good time.

Review: I am so happy this was my first read of 2025. It was cute, quick and honestly I wish it had gone on forever. I am so excited for book two to come out. I will never look at a pineapple the same again, IYKYK. While the names weren't my style I absolutely loved Kindra and her quirky not friend. I absolutely loved this book. It was a good mix of my boyfriend's favorite thing and mine. There were times that Ezra got on my nerves closer to the end but it is a quick read. Mostly because i absolutely could not put it down. I cannot wait to read more books by Lauren.
